The Black Man's Burden

In just under a month, we will be hosting the inaugural and impactful Black Mental Health Conference on Wednesday, 27th May 2026, dedicated to addressing the mental health challenges faced by the Black community.
Registration for the conference is now officially closed, having reached full capacity within just three weeks of opening. Our waiting list is also fully subscribed and now closed. This overwhelming response powerfully indicates the hunger and need for platforms like Restore Black C.I.C. to host conferences addressing mental health challenges within the Black community.
As a team, we are encouraged by the interest shown and energised as we move forward with planning. The buzz and anticipation surrounding the conference keep us motivated. While this first conference cannot cover every subject area, it marks the beginning of an important annual event aimed at ongoing dialogue, learning, and systemic change.
We’re dedicated to decolonising the conference by truly centring Black voices and experiences at every stage. On a personal note, while planning and preparing my welcome address, I keenly feel the weight of the burden, the complex and often invisible challenges that we carry as Black people. This conference, themed ‘The Black Man’s Burden,’ is a space to start unpacking that burden together.
We are honoured to feature distinguished speakers including Dr. Leroy Logan, PhD, MBE; Chris Dzikiti, Interim Chief Inspector of Mental Health at the Care Quality Commission; and Charles Brown, Psychoanalytical Psychotherapist. Their contributions will offer powerful perspectives to deepen our understanding and inspire collective healing. These are just the morning speakers, keep an eye out for my next blog where I’ll share what’s happening in the afternoon and who’ll be joining us then.
Thank you to everyone who has registered, shown interest, and support. We look forward to welcoming you on Wednesday, 27th May 2026.
